For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. (Psalm 91:11,12)

I am quite familiar with Psalm 91, which is popularly referred to as the Pilot's Psalm. I believe very much that God protects His people especially when we are not even aware of the danger around us.

One day in 2005, God opened my eyes a little to show me that He really does protect His own. I was at work on a Saturday and planned to be in church later in the day for a revival programme. By the time I left work, I was already running late.

There were so many reasons why I did not have to attend that programme but I shrugged off al the excuses. I was determined to be at the meeting even if I would get there just in time for the closing prayers. I got down from the bus and crossed the first lane of a very busy road. I got set to cross the second lane as I noticed that the on-coming vehicles were still some meters to where I was.

I sprinted from the kerb knowing that I would get to the other side before the cars would get to where I was. What happened the next minute was beyond my comprehension. Till today, I don't know if I tripped or slipped. I saw myself going down as the cars sped towards me.

I heard the cry of other pedestrians while I braced for the impact from one of the cars. The impact never came. I saw my cell phone flip to the other side of the road and saw a hand pick it up to avoid being smashed by other vehicles. I got up and looked in the direction of the on-coming cars.

They had all stopped and the driver closest to where I had fallen, looked at me with compassion in his eyes while waiting for me to pick myself up and cross to the other side of the road. Everywhere was silent as people watched me limp to the kerb, rubbing my knee and arm which suffered from the impact of my fall. Conversation resumed as the cars began to move again.

I heard the voice of one of the people saying 'You should go to church and give thanks to God!'. I smiled as I thought, 'She has no idea where I am headed'. I checked myself again and found that apart from a bruise on my left knee and a sprained wrist, I was okay. I remember saying, "too bad devil, you've had your chance and you have failed".

I still went for the service and was blessed as I got there just as the guest minister began preaching. This incident did indeed show me that God does watch over His own. Most of the time we don't even know that He is fighting our battles for us because most of the battles are invisible ones. I could have ended up in the hospital with a broken limb or head injury.

I probably could have been fatally injured but God spread His arms around me and saved me from what could have been an unplanned trip to the hospital or at worse, to the morgue.

God put me in the care of His angels to provide protection for me on that day without which a life changing incident would have occurred or worse..I would not have been writing this story today

What a wonderful protector we have in God!
