True Freedom
By Yuki Igbinosa
Freedom, according to the advanced learners dictionary, is being free, unrestricted use, a right or privilege. Everyone desires freedom but not everyone is free.
A lot of people walk around today, bound in their spirit and thinking. As a result, they are not able to express their full God-given potential. God’s desire for man is to be free to dominate the earth by expressing the full potential packaged in them.
Why are people still bound and how can they enjoy true freedom? There is an account in the Bible we are very familiar with and It is that of Paul and Silas as recorded in Acts of the Apostles Chapter 16: 25 – 34
Although, Paul and Silas were physically bound and put in the prison, they enjoyed what I refer to as the ‘true freedom’, which only comes from God. This is recorded in verse 28 "But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying Do thyself no harm: for we are all here". Paul and Silas enjoyed true freedom and so were able to fulfill their assignment here on earth.
The Bible records that the keeper of the prison was going to kill himself, thinking Paul and Silas would have fled seeing that the prison doors were open. But the two men, like Joseph, knew the difference between being bound in the physical and being bound in the spirit. Literarily, it is the keeper that was bound not Paul and Silas.
This incidence opened the keeper’s eyes to this same type of freedom, which can only be delivered through a relationship with Jesus Christ. He confirms in verse 30 ‘ And brought them (Paul and Silas) out, and said, Sirs (I know you are in charge – truly free), what must is do to be saved?’ What must I do to be truly free? In the physical, Paul and Silas were bound but in reality they were free as exhibited in this biblical account. This freedom comes only by having a relationship with Jesus Christ.
If you want to enjoy the Paul and Silas kind of freedom, which is the true freedom, believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and accept him into your life today as your Lord and master. The keeper heard them praising, probably even knew some of the songs they sang but he didn’t have that relationship. If you are reading this and don’t have a relationship with the creator yet, now is the time to trace your steps back to Him. It is only in that relationship that your true freedom can emerge.
If you already enjoy that kind of relationship and the enemy is holding you bound physically in any area, whether in your finances, health, marriage or career, just do what Paul and Silas did in verse 25 ‘ And at midnight (the darkest hour of their challenge) Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises (expression of their faith in God’s ability to also free them physically having secured their spiritual freedom – true freedom): and the prisoners heard them (the enemy heard the expression of their faith – open confession) and you shall be set free from every chain of the enemy.
I see all the doors opening immediately in your favour in Jesus name. Amen
Peace!
