One day,  Jerusalem  had unexpected visitors. These men were called the Wise men, considered to be knowledgeable in the art of astrology. We do not know much about them but their mission is made clear in Matthew 2:2, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star in the East and have come to worship him”.

They had obviously travelled a great distance, not just because they saw a unique star, but also because they had read the prophecies and had knowledge of what the star represented.  A king was about to be born, and they were committed to visiting this important royalty making his entrance as a baby.

As soon as the intention of the Magi was made known,  word  got to King Herod who was ruling in Jerusalem at that time.  Before we examine the reaction of...

Luke 2:14 – "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."

Relief flooded Joseph's mind as he and Mary approached the usually quiet, but now bustling little town of Bethlehem. Clouds of dust swirled around them as their fellow travelers whipped their tired donkeys, urging them to go faster; and groups of weary and irritated visitors pushed and shoved their way to the hostels in order to find accommodation.

Joseph prodded his patient donkey to pick up her pace, all the while keeping his eye on Mary, slumped as far as she could on the neck of the donkey. He must...

As  I woke up today, gratitude flowed through me like a river flowing beyond its banks. I know without a shadow of doubt that God has been good to me. I did not need any inspiration for me to give thanks to God on this special day because as the psalmist prayed, God is teaching me to  number my days so that I can apply my heart to wisdom.

Four decades and a half ago, I was born here in London and I am sure like every other parent, my parents prayed and hoped that I would become a source of blessing to the family and that I would live long. No parent lives with the assurance that the children would outlive them, rather they pray and hope that God would in His mercy keep their children alive and well.

For me, that prayer was answered and is still being answered. There was a ti...

Luke 2

I thank You, God for Christmas true:

The gift of Christ to me, from You.
Christ left His throne to come to earth.
From Prince, to Babe of lowly birth.
His earthly father was a stranger.
His mother bore Him in a manger.

No newscast flashed around the world.
No grandioso flags unfurled.
No pompous statesmen, gifts did bring.
No one to say, “He is a King.”
No dazzle. Just the moonlight dim.
Just ox and ass to welcome Him.

Some shepherds, on that dark, dark night
Were startled by a brilliant light.
“Joy to the world,” the angles sang.
The hillsides with their chorus rang.
And soon all heaven broke forth in song.
Those humble shepherds sang along.

They hastened to the Babe so sweet.
They bowed, and worshiped at His feet.
They knew their Savior had been...

I decided to take it easy today and just do a little work around the house while I listened to some Christmas carols. There is something about that sweet music that always delights my heart and brightens my day. There is nothing like a little JOY TO THE WORLD to bring a little joy to the soul.

It was while I was listening to this very song, in fact, that God took a moment to open a window in my mind. I was singing along as I usually do when I started to think about why there isn’t more joy in this world of ours. It saddened me for a moment until I heard the wise whisper of God speaking from the depths of my soul. "What are you doing to bring more joy to this world?," it asked.

I took a moment to smile and laugh at my own foolishness after that. I had been reminded again abou...
