God’s Love Never Fails

by Steve Popoola on July 10, 2017 in Biblepraise, Love

As one of the worship leaders in my Church, when I choose the songs I would lead in a meeting, I have often found that out of the songs, there often would be one particular song that would keep intruding in my thoughts.

One song in particular that I love singing is, “One Thing Remains” written by Christa Black-Gifford, Brian Johnson & Jeremy Riddle.

The first verse goes as follows;
Higher than the mountains that I face
Stronger than the power of the grave
Constant in the trial and the change
One thing remains
One thing remains

God Has a Plan For You

by Steve Popoola on February 10, 2014 in Faith

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”. (Jeremiah 29:11)

By now the excitement that heralded the start of  the year has waned. The hopes and aspirations of the new  year for many is beginning to look bleak and the future looks so uncertain.  It is back to the daily grind and the harsh reality of today.

For many, the year did not start on a good note – it was not the way they would have wished to start the year. In Somerset,  South West England, it has been a devastation caused by floods. Homes and businesses have been under water for weeks, causing people to evacuate their homes and sources of livelihood.

Knowing The All-Knowing God

by Steve Popoola on September 2, 2013 in Biblepraise, Faith

One morning, my colleagues were discussing about whether God exists. Almost everyone involved in the discussion gave reasons why they did not believe that there is a God.

Usually, I do not debate with people on such a subject unless a question is directed at me personally.  At some point during the discussion, I heard myself asking them the question, ‘Guys, How can explain the way things work? The way the universe holds together? Don’t you think someone is in control? Or do you think that these things just work?’ That was the end of the discussion. It was as if God Himself ended the discussion.

God Is On Our Side

by Steve Popoola on August 5, 2013 in Biblepraise, Faith

There is no doubt that we live in trouble times. Many countries have been going through years of recession and this has affected many businesses with direct impact on the livelihood of families.

As I watched the news yesterday, my attention was drawn to an old couple who had been adversely affected by the man’s loss of job as an Engineer in America. He told the story of how they no longer have health insurance; they are now in debt, had their electricity cut and now they were losing their home. My heart went out to them and I wished I had the resource and ability to help them. I realize however that theirs is not an isolated case, they are just one of the millions of families going through tough times in America. Challenges being faced by people vary. It could be financial, as in the case of the couple above; it could be illness, loss of a loved one or depression triggered by an event.

The Focus of His Love

by Steve Popoola on June 24, 2013 in Biblepraise, Love

I never cease to wonder at the unceasing and relentless love of God for man. What strikes me more than anything else, is the fact that in spite of the natural man’s relentless efforts to distance himself from Him, God’s love has not waned a bit. He continues to seek and to save those who are lost.

As I wondered about this, I began to think about what was written in Ephesians 1:4, ‘Even before He made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in His eyes’.

Does God Exist?

I am sure anyone seeing the above caption would wonder what this writer is trying get across to the readers? How can he be asking or questioning the existence of God? I would like you to know that this writer believes in the existence of God without a shadow of doubt.

Many years ago, I was flipping through the channels on the TV, when I stumbled on an interview program. The personality being interviewed was Nobel Laureate, Nigerian writer and Social Critic, Professor Wole Soyinka.

The Danger of Compromise

by steve on April 30, 2012 in Biblepraise

Jennifer had been deep in thought for days. She was torn between a desire to serve God and getting a juicy job offer.

The job was hers for the taking just as the HR Manager had told her a few days ago. There was however a snag. “I like you very much” said the man, who stood between her and a job she had spent many months pursuing. “How about we go out next weekend to celebrate your new job?” he said, eyes twinkling with a devilish wink.

Giant Killers

by Steve Popoola on April 23, 2012 in Biblepraise

One of the contemporary gospel tracks I love to listen to is, ‘Giants ‘by Hezekiah Walker.  In a powerful song-message, he tells us that giants die and goes further to say that the bigger they are, the harder they fall!

As Christians, we face giants as we fight the good fight of faith. We encounter them everywhere. At work, in school, in our neighbourhood and wait for it…….sometimes in church!

He Would Not Let Go (Part 3)

by Steve Popoola on March 26, 2012 in Biblepraise

I believe that the strength of a home is largely related to the choice of who we marry.  I do not know how far I would have gone in life if I had not married my wife. I have always been thankful of the fact that God did not give me the kind of person I wanted but gave me the person I needed.

Initially, my wife could not understand when I always convert our needs into prayer no matter  how little and trivial the problems were. Afterwards when the needs were met in unusual ways, she would remember that we actually did pray for it.
